For centuries, The United States of America has been known as the land of the free and the home of the brave. The USA has managed to dominate the world. But despite being founded on the principles of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, there is an atrocious secret that threatens to engulf many people in this country and that is the extraordinary formation of the US prison system by racial chattel logic. The country has the highest prison and jail population in the world. Despite accounting for just under 5% of the global population, The USA accounts for over 21% of world prisoners. For years, the media has pushed the idea that most prisoners are from broken homes filled with impoverished and uneducated people. The upbringing I experienced was filled with love, confidence, politics, and motivation to become the best version of myself. My story decimates that narrative.

I would have never imagined that my life would pivot from being an extremely successful entrepreneur to becoming the property of the Federal Prison System. I was falsely accused, wrongly convicted, labeled as a terrorist, and illegally tossed in prison for three years. To survive this whirlwind of chaotic events I would have to search for the meaning of life through this sabbatical by telling my story.

All proceeds from this book will benefit “Helping Ourselves to Transform,” a black woman-led non-profit women-led and Black-led nonprofit organization whose mission is to equip our loved ones coming home from incarceration, injustice, and abuse by giving them the tools to succeed in family, housing, business, and law.
